Player Bio Tips

The age of social media and fast networking brings the opportunity to take center stage on the virtual stage, but how does one standout in a sea of viral videos and in an environment where, if anything, there is more competition for the coveted team spots?  We learned a few tips from coach Omar, who coaches high school varsity soccer in the Bay Area.  

For all of the time athletes spend on the field, whether in practice, games or tournaments, how often does an individual player actually take stock of his or her story, playing “resume”, special skills and statistics? There is a healthy balance between tracking this and enjoying the game, so caution and guarding against being obsessive about how one appears on paper is important, but not doing anything is not advisable either.  For an athlete who is targeting college entry based on his or her sport, having a bio, printed on heavy glossy card stock the size of a postcard, with a photo, a link to highlighted footage, and a brief summary of position and statistics, can be a really great way to share who you are.
